A little Help for a Friend

Posted on Jan 4th, 2008 by Doug : Back Yard Artist Doug

A friend here on Zaadz, a divorced mom and her young daughter are in need of about $1,500 to pay for moving expenses from the west coast back to the east coast to be closer to family. I have paintings that I made for love so I am offering my artwork to help meet this friend’s need.

So the plan is I’m going to post some paintings in this blog with a suggested donation amount. Please contact me here via zaadz mail to make a reasonable offer. I will give you the contact info for our friend and you may contact her to make arrangements for payment. Meanwhile I will ship you the painting. I am sure she would be very thankful for a simple donation as well. So if you don’t have a wall for a painting but still want to help, please email me. Also if there is another painting in my photo section that you are interested in let’s discuss.

 These are all unmated, unframed.

Ugh, how I wish I had extra money right now.  I would love to be the owner of Water and Wood and Stone.  This is such an amazing gesture on your part and such amazing art to back it up with!

My timing's off - if this were 1 month forward I would be jumping with glee to purchase a work of your work.

I find this gesture of yours to be as true and telling as your art. What an expression of love!

The work is beautiful Doug. I wanted you to know that I didn't ignore you but that I'm finally debt free and credit card free. It feels good and now I'm working to save $1000 so that I'm not in a situation where I can't get myself unstuck. I hope all goes well with your friend and her daughter get home soon.

Hee! I have a pearl earring? But I don't have pierced ears! I will have to string it on a necklace I'm afraid!

Hi Amber,

I'm referencing Vermeer again and the painting that I sent you an image of. There is also a movie made about Vermeer and that particular painting staring Scarlett Johansson. In the movie Vermeer pierces the ear of the teenage girl , played by Johansson, that came to work in his household, so she could wear one of his wife's pearl earrings and model for him.

I'll tell you, what we won't do for art.

Yikes! My worst nightmare. Having someone pierce my ear! I didn't notice that earring in the picture at first! I do now! Seems like a movie I'd like to watch! I'll have my David rent it one evening. We like art and the history of art although right now we're reading The History of Jazz. Maybe I should say that David is into anything that is History and that I'm along for the ride! I don't have a brain that wants to trap those details. I really like a good story or a good piece of art. I don't really want to know the details. In the History of Jazz it seems like many of the great talents of that time ended up dying in insane asylums or from drinking themselves to death. Why do artist types seem bent on going out in dramatic ways? grin! How did Vermeer go out? Poor? Unknown? Crazy? He was very good at his art so it couldn't have been a nice death.

This is a lovely gesture Doug. I cannot donate any money now, but if she needs her taxes done, which may help her finance her move I would be willing to do them free and file them for her for minimal cost the IRS charges me. With a new business and moving across the country, I am tapped, but am willing to join in and help in a way I can..tell her to contact me through email if she wishes this to be done.

humm … loving intentions are more meaningful than we sometimes realise… blessings abound where love flows freely… do not loose heart if the outcome is not what was envisaged… we seldom plan better than the design of the divine universe

I don't have the wall or anyone to give one too.  Your heartfelt gesture is wonderful to know about.  I wish it every success and believe as HummingBird indicated, that it is the energy of your gesture, symbolic and suggestive of a turn in circumstances for your friend, that is out doing the work for her improvement.  The improvement itself, the circumstances that unfold are always perfect and so, if it appears that what you attempt is not the channel that the eventuality takes, know this, the sincerity of your love and concern are very active and real and do manifest in meaningful ways for your friend.

Wishing you, your friend and her daughter - all the best.

Hi Hummy! Hi Debby!
It does seem like the universe will go along with us clinging to the outcome and will in fact make it happen. There is much more joy in just connecting with intention and being blessed and surprised by what happens when we let go of the outcome.
I actually don't know how to make art anymore, I forgot how. I play with paint in my studio just for the love and joy of it and there is always the gift of art when I am in love.

my teacher & mentor, Bill Ainslie (artist) used to say… the one thing he found hard to teach, is that the teacher doesn't actually know anything :)
