So maybe this is the final piece in the Big Sur series or maybe I need to zip down to the UC Santa Cruz campus to stand in all five circles North, South, East, West and Above to see this from all directions like a Faulkner novel, knowing that history is never really know while it is happening. We never see history in the moment we are in right now unless we allow the past to somehow slip into the present, to be kind of a transparent overlay. So I've stood in those circles of red and black stone, I howled from the top of a mountain and watched as the moon set over the western sea while father sun transformed fear into warmth. I asked for help and the flashing lights of life entered into me. And I was alone there.
And so I see you now in a soft reptilian room with a green pond and waterfall. Like those nights at Culvers Lake when we would slip down to the waters edge and lose our clothes in the trees slipping into the silky liquid silence beneath the August moon. How I loved you then. And the bag full of second grade Valentines cards I carried with me for the years until hair grew on my legs and we used my cards as tinder for our winter fire.
But my love, have you seen the pink and white plum blossoms?
Come with me now beyond intimacy, beyond our flesh and bones. Our love moves through the trees like the clothes we abandoned so long ago in our silky silence.

love to you, too, and your loved ones…
Thank you Nicole! I'll take all you're giving.
Art has always been for me a form of recognition.
Recognition of feelings, stirring in me memories of how I once felt,or how I feel now.
Art is a gift from the creator to the observer, often stirring emotions that have lain dormant for far to long,or feelings that needed a voice.
I thank you for your gift Doug, thank you for the many times your voice has stirred in me a sense of myself.
Thank you Bridget! And it's such a pleasure to share myself this way, especially with such wonderful people!

Gorgeous and fills the senses.

Thank you Ivan! Yes this one is pretty physical and I've been sensing a lot of this kind of energy lately. I think the plants feed on it and burst forth with their colors, their invitation to be taken.

Oh Jung Lady! That means a lot to me Thank you!
So nice to see your smiling prayful self here.
Sorry I missed this when you first posted it. In view of our recent discussion about passion , I think the timing was right (ain't it always :-) When I see your work and read your poetic words, I am in awe. I think passion is a constant, and those we consider “gifted” have simply found a way to transcend themselves and be open to its bounty. I feel that openness when I see your work. It is beckoning me to loosen the ties which tether me to the “nice safe harbor,” and let the current take me out to sea.
Wow! Double wow!! Amber light in a soft room….hmm….illuminating and exciting… Psst..don't tell anyone but at first glance I saw a Raja…an Indian king…. (Lol…that ought to reveal how much of an art connoisseur I am, hmm?)
As for the accompanying word art, wow! Double wow!! I was totally spell bound and bowled over…
Super cool, Doug…
Amy :-)
Wow, Thank you Catherine!
I was thinking more about the question of passion and wondering if it is this flow of life through us and the more it flows the more we feel desire. But when we follow desire and attach ourselves to the object of our desire then we either find it is out of reach or worse we actually obtain the thing we desire only to find it doesn't really satisfy our longing. Like that jewel in the surf line that we pocket to take home only to find we have another common gray stone. And we feel like we should be happy after obtaining what we desired. Maybe even a little guilty that we have taken this thing and found we really didn't want it after-all. Somethings we can't simply toss back into the surf line and so desire fulfilled becomes responsibility. So in the end it's the beginning, the feeling of life flowing through us that is all we ever really wanted. To love that stone in the surf line for the moment it exists in our vision, trusting that in the next moment something even more beautiful will fly overhead, casting the shadow of birds on the sand.
Hi Amy and Thank you!
You know if his girlfriend was a Goddess then you're right it probably is Raja. You know pink is thought of as being feminine but really it's masculine and it is used by the feminine to attract male energy. It works for me anyway and I'm not afraid to wear it too. After all I was born in that color.
Wow that seems like a stretch! Lol!
love your stuff Doug
Hey Jena! Thank you dear!
Doug, I like this painting quite a lot!
Thank you Carla!
I have to say that your blog is often an inspiration for me. I went looking for one you posted a while ago that I have thought of since but then I ran across this jewel.
