Fire and Water
Firewater
The tears of Pele
Strung out on a cheap string
With rusted beads
Interspersed with pure
Tropical sea
A reservation
With golden grass
Interspersed
With a cyclone fence
With a big sky
With a narrow broken road
With rusted Chevy trucks
With crushed Budweiser cans
With your watery blue eyes
With pure white clouds
Floating on
Just barely
Brushing her light fingers
Across the tip-top
Of a mountain
Saying hello
Saying goodbye

I love you.
Nifty, textury, no…texturious, and lovely colour! Was that an unfolded origami crane? It's been a lovely colour week! I just posted a thingy about colours, and mentioned red oxide (RUST!). Golden Artist Colors is to big kids as the 64 box of Crayolas is to little kids (: Dog house? Much love, and infinite blessings!
knowing what I do about your process with this … I am so WOW about it! This is a very deep turquoise and the rust almost appears as if it has been brushed of it's residue … and again your words are so moving and speak to the image so well.
YOWZER! you be way beyond '15 minutes of fame' my friend … and who is counting the minutes anyway? I'm not —- are you?
I too love you …
Loving that loving energy you share Elisa and that silliness and well, you, I love you too!
Hi Loraine. Oooo I still love those 64 box of Crayolas! But if you want to blow your wad check out Daniel Smith paints. Wow this sounds spamish but really they make W&N paints look like dirt. For the encaustics I just buy raw pigments because it's such a process anyway with the heat-gun and iron and one burner stove, that pouring a little pigment into the wax is the least of it. And I think the rust color is red oxide or mars red? I don't remember. I usually mix up batches in old tin cans and then just grab the color I want when I'm painting and throw the can on the burner. Oh and it's more of a failed paper airplane then origami crane although I would guess neither can fly?
Great big love and thank you thank you!
Ms Peri! Not me I'm not counting and I don't even wear a watch anymore and heck if you are aware of time passing or what time it is then it 's high time to examine how you are spending your time. That's probably the reason you and I often have the lights still on at 2AM cuz we're thinking it must still be 8 or maybe 9 still. Just write a little before starting to paint and you peek down in the corner of your screen at OMG and I have to get up in the morning!
And turquoise was the color of the week and is one of my favs, that and pink and you know where I got the idea cuz I love you too….
uhmm.. exquisite!.. I'm popping in with my morning coffee, not really awake yet (yes, I slept in today) .. floating in rich texture, divine combination of colors & yr words of imagery are very intriquing.. beautiful.. opening my mind & heart, letting it all in to flow through me.. the feel of it all.. sheer pleasure..not finding words yet to describe.. letting it be a wonderful way to wake up.. what a treat.. thank you Doug.. much love to you.. tara
Mm that poem. Wow! The last two lines gave it a momentous close. Bravo. You are very much inspired these days. That turquoise looks good.
I can always count on you dear Doug to express beauty in artistic expression. Beautiful :o)
Oh D-hug, your painting is absolutely b-HUE-tiful and your poem is a work of heart!!!
All my love, Rose-see -,-‘-{@
Today I think you're a fisherperson, and you make nets to catch some of our consciousnesses, which are also corners of the Universe which is, as we “know,” infinitely collected of angles. I like your angle Doug, you're shining! :)
Taking advantage of “edit for 15 minutes” I'd want to add that the only reason to say stuff in new combinations of words and thoughts is that we're not with you in person so we could just look and smile and say, “cool!” It's difficult to be at a distance, sometimes. Or maybe I'm making it difficult, I donno.
Hi Tara and thank you! I'm happy to share something with you for breakfast along with that coffee and open heart and open mind.
Thank you Samme! Yes lots of inspiration and just right here I count 8.
Jung Lady Thank you! And yes you can count on everything reflecting the beauty you expect, that you are.
Ahh Rose-sea! Hugs back dear one! And thank you!
Hi Martha and Thank you! I had a dream about a fisherperson fishing in Poe creek and there was no hook on the end of his line, just a red and white bobber. I wanted to ask him about it but I didn't get around to it. I think he intended to fish but catching was not part of his intention. So he altered the course the fish took without violating their essential nature, allowing them to be fish.
I was referring to acrylics, but WOW! Love Dan'l Smith's watercolour paints! They have all my favourite pigments!!! Thank you for the link! I've wanted to try my hand at encaustics…love the effects that can be achieved with the process. I did however, try batik…do you use a mixture bee's wax and parafin with your encaustic work? Much love!
Yeah, Golden and acrylics kind of go hand in hand. I don't use parafin just bee's wax damar and pigment. There is another petroleum based wax that people sometimes mix in to make a stronger paint film that I can't think of the name of right now. Anyway you should give them a try sometime. Also you can buy encaustic paints premixed and all you have to do is melt them. Most of the stuff you need you can pick up cheap or free, like old soup cans and a one burner stove and an old iron from the thrift store. The heat gun will cost you about $40-$50 but it's worth it. Without it your paints will cool down too fast on the painting surface and you need it to burn in the paint. Buy the cheapest brushes possible too and get enough so you have a few different sizes for each color. What's great is you don't clean your brushes, just wipe off any excess paint and throw them in a can handle down until the next time. Lot's of love to you too and Have fun!
Doug this is amazing…like you! Really gorgeous and I love all the texture and the colors are fab! Ive never seen this process but enjoy it immensley. Just the cat's meow to be sure! Ty for sharing! xox
Thank you Julia and YES xoxo!
Though I paint oils expressionist style, I'm very fond of Anselm Kiefer's work. Also, glass (used to have a studio - not hot though) and love metals…sculptures…
Thank you for the interesting comments you left for me. I'd say kind, or thoughtful, but more so they were interesting. I love non-generic kinds of comments :)
Tiger… I'd always been a WYSIWYG kind of person. Learning not to show my hand so readily as being the type of person who also gives not only the benefit of the doubt but sees the potential sometimes more than the reality, on occasion this can lead to less savory sorts surprising me by exploiting my nature. Watching quietly while lazing and stretching in the sun yet ready to jump into action is something I'd like to develop further.
I prefer a “find people you trust and then trust them” philosophy. “Crouching tiger” is sorta like a mantra for me - though I don't pounce! Instead, when I unleash, I create :)
Hi CT! Nice to meet you! Lol! I guess my comment was rather random and slightly bold like I was walking through your back door uninvited kind of thing which is so unlike me when I am actually meeting people live.
Anyway I'd love to see your paintings sometime if you'd care to post them and yes I really like Kiefer's work as well.
Love the explaination for your screen name and I'm with you on creating beauty with the energy that is in us, that is us.
