Walker in the City

There was a girl walking towards me
down the city sidewalk
she walked with purpose
and I watched shyly as she approached
from a distance
I thought it was you
who I have never met
and as she got closer
I turned towards the street
so our eyes wouldn't meet
I was hoping
she would approach
and say "Doug?"
And I would say your name
open my arms to embrace you
And I heard her footsteps behind me
like the redshift
when a comet passes by
I felt the warmth of the sun on my face
finished my coffee
turned to walk back to my studio
she got to the corner paused
and turned back
we passed each other
and I didn't look
in her eyes
because I couldn't stand it
if it wasn't you
and I can't stand it
if it was
and I missed you.

Help

omg Doug,
“and I didn't look
in her eyes
because I couldn't stand it
if it wasn't you
and I can't stand it
if it was
and I missed you”
this is wonderfully dreadful or dreadfully wonderful
Beautiful!
Hi Sprite! Thank you!! Yes a little Dougie despairing with the mid-morning coffee. Well not to say that kissing a frog isn't worth it as long as you are prepared to wake up in the morning with the prince vanished, and there is just an ordinary man who needs a shave and one of those contraptions to stop the outrageous snoring, there in the rumbled bed. Yes, the other 23 1/2 hours of the day. :-)
TY Desafinada! It's like your icon, we partially see the other and the other part we see is our dream of the other. And if we see too clearly then the mirror shatters and appears somewhere down the street approaching.
simply gorgeous!
You're a sweetheart Nicole! TY and big hugs((()))
Dougie! You did it again, a great creation…….and you know what else, I love coming to your poetry store….browsing is priceless fun……and I know, I just know, I will find something with my name on it……even though it has Peggy and Little Susie on it as well.

Hope that made u smile and smile like I am doing right now.

Fantastic picture my dear Doug - and I could see you every step of the way…
